About This Spot

Stepping up to A Taste of Seafood on Frederick Douglass Boulevard feels like entering a cherished local ritual. The modest, bustling space hums with quiet anticipation—folks settle into their spots with the easy familiarity of neighbors gathering for comfort rather than ceremony. There’s a steady rhythm here, a sense that every plate carries not just food, but stories passed from one hand to the next.

The warm, fried aroma invites you in and sets a welcoming tone that lingers beyond the door. The atmosphere is unpretentious, alive with the gentle clatter of dishes, friendly exchanges from behind the counter, and the occasional laugh held between bites. It’s the kind of place where you might find yourself standing in line, not out of impatience, but out of a shared understand of something worth waiting for.

What makes a visit here quietly special isn’t just the perfectly crisped golden fish or the tender shrimp—though those are natural draws—but how the dishes feel steeped in tradition and heart. Collard greens, macaroni and cheese, and candied yams arrive side by side like familiar companions, each bite echoing slow afternoons and gathering places. Whether you come for a quick fish sandwich or settle in with a platter of lobster tails or fried chicken wings paired with waffles, there’s a grounded richness that satisfies beyond the plate.

Many who return speak of the balance in every detail—the right temperature, the thoughtful choice of ingredients, and a care that feels palpable in the kitchen’s hum. It’s the kind of meal that gently invites you to slow down, take a moment, and savor the ordinary made memorable.

A Taste of Seafood isn’t flashy or oversized—it’s a local gem carved out by discipline and devotion to soulful seafood, where the food does the talking and the atmosphere wraps around you like a familiar melody on a quiet Harlem evening.

I moved to Harlem since 2016, and passed off the store many times and always wondering why there is always a line of people patiently waiting for food. Today is my first time since I forgone my strict diet on fried food. I will say, the taste of their fried fish is the closest thing that I have tasted from paradise. First, the temperature is accurate. Second, the way they select their oil is strict. The degree I will say, maybe they use olive oil or very high class bean oil. But I don’t think it is peanut oil. Thirdly, the chef’s technique is Michelin level. The result from the food is amazing. The fish is 92% down to 88% well done and there is a slight distance from the protein and the crispy juice out layer. Fourth, when you take the first bite, you know, OMG is it ain’t no right? Or I should visit frequent! Highly recommend!!!!!!!!

This place has the best seafood and sides I've ever had. This place is too small. You come here on a Friday night and you will be standing on line outside, but the food will make you wait!

Man listen......Listen! I've had this a few times in the past and it was ok. This must recent time.....I ate mine and I stayed up extra late, so I could eat what my wife had left over. I told her it fell out the fridge and spilled.... Fell right into my stomach!!!! The collards weren't all that but they got eaten as well!!!

Stopped by for lunch one day, and it was well worth it. I got the 2 piece fish special with greens and yams. It was awesome, the service was fast and friendly. After I ate it, I could barely stay awake at my desk! Maybe better to take home
